Empowering women and girls in rural areas to effectively overcome the challenges of climate change

Climate change-related challenges, such as desertification, floods, droughts, and harsh winters, have disproportionately increased the burden on women by intensifying their responsibilities in livestock herding and household caregiving, thereby exacerbating their economic vulnerability and undermining their capacity to adapt. To address these challenges, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a project in Mongolia titled "Enhancing Gender Equality for Rural Women and Girls through Climate-Resilient and Gender-Responsive Policies." This initiative aims to equip rural women and girls with the skills and knowledge necessary to adapt to and thrive in the face of climate change.

The project, funded by the ADB, is being carried out by the Secretariat of the National Committee on Gender Equality, with technical support from the IRIM Research Institute. The IRIM team is serving as the gender and monitoring & evaluation consultants, providing essential expertise throughout the project's implementation.

The project will run until 2026, during which the IRIM will undertake the following activities:

· Conduct analysis and develop policy recommendations to integrate gender equality into policies and programs within the food and agriculture sector.

· Organize training, workshop, and international conferences to actively engage stakeholders in promoting resilience and gender equality for rural girls and women.

· Implement phased capacity-building activities at the local level to empower NGOs, entrepreneurs, and female leaders in targeted provinces, continuing until 2026.
