The most common form of gender-based violence in Mongolia is domestic violence, particularly physical violence perpetrated by intimate partners. According to the last five years of statistics from the police, an average of over 115 criminal cases under Article 11.7 of the Criminal Code—"Committing Domestic Violence"—and more than 10,500 infringements are recorded annually nationwide. This reflects an increase in both domestic violence-related infringements and criminal cases compared to previous years.
To identify the factors contributing to this increase, as well as to evaluate the measures implemented by the government, NGOs, and international organizations in recent years and their outcomes and coordination, the IRIM team has started a study on the "Current Situation of Gender-Based Violence." The study will be conducted until April 2025.
This research is commissioned by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and aims to provide baseline information that will guide JICA’s future activities in addressing gender-based violence.
